The formula

Price per kg of protein = price ÷ (pack size in kg × protein per 100 g ÷ 100). Example: A$80 for 2 kg at 75% protein = 80 ÷ 1.5 = A$53.33 per kg of protein. We also show the cost of 30 g of protein (about one large scoop).

Prices

• Read once a day from each store's public product data (for example a store's product feed, or the structured price data on its product page). We read slowly and respect each site's robots.txt.
• For each product we take every in-stock size and flavour, and show the size with the lowest price per kg of protein (the cheapest flavour at that size).
• Prices are the store's listed price in its own currency, before shipping, coupon codes, subscriptions or member pricing. Taxes are included where the store includes them (AU GST, UK VAT); US prices exclude sales tax.
• If a product disappears from a store's data, we mark it unavailable and stop listing it.

Protein content

• From the product's label as published by the store: the nutrition panel's per 100 g column, or protein per serving divided by serving size.
• When flavours have different panels, we use the lowest protein figure, so we never overstate.
• If we cannot find the label figure, the product is left out. We never estimate protein content.
• We have not lab-tested any product. Labels are allowed some tolerance, so the true figure can differ slightly.

What we exclude

Mass gainers and meal replacements (under 50% protein), ready-to-drink shakes, bars, samples and bundles.

Product types

We group products as whey isolate, whey concentrate, whey blend, clear whey, casein, plant, beef or egg from the product name. Tags like "unflavoured", "marketed to women" or "diet" come from the store's own product name; "vegan" and "lactose-free" are the brand's claims, not ours.
